How It Plays
Blackjack Live 2 is played with eight decks of cards. The objective is to achieve a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer, without exceeding 21. Players are dealt two initial cards, and the dealer receives one card face up and one face down (a "hole card"). The dealer peeks for blackjack if their up-card is an Ace. If the dealer has blackjack, the player loses their entire wager, including any amounts from doubles or splits.
Standard actions are available:
Hit: Take another card.
Stand: Take no more cards.
Double Down: Double the initial bet and receive one more card. This is allowed on any initial two cards.
Split: If the first two cards are of the same rank, they can be split into two separate hands. Only one split is allowed per hand. Doubling after a split is permitted. Aces, when split, receive only one additional card per hand.
Insurance: If the dealer's up-card is an Ace, players can place an optional insurance bet, which pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack. This bet has a negative expected value in the long run.
The dealer must stand on all 17s (both hard and soft). There is no surrender option available at this table.
House Edge by Bet
The house edge for Blackjack Live 2, based on the standard ruleset and optimal basic strategy, is as follows:
| Bet | House Edge | RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Main Hand (Basic Strategy) | 0.71% | 99.29% |
| 21+3 | 3.70% | 96.30% |
| Perfect Pairs | 4.10% | 95.90% |
The main hand RTP of 99.29% is as deployed at Chips.gg. Note that the side bets carry a significantly higher house edge compared to the main blackjack game, meaning they offer a lower return to player over time.
Strategy and Bankroll
Optimal play in blackjack involves following "basic strategy," a mathematically derived set of decisions for every possible player hand against every possible dealer up-card. Adhering to basic strategy minimizes the house edge to the 0.71% stated above, making blackjack one of the most favorable casino games for players. Deviating from basic strategy will increase the house edge.
A key strategic point is to avoid the insurance bet. While it offers a 2:1 payout, the probability of the dealer having blackjack when an Ace is showing makes it a losing proposition over the long term.
For bankroll management, consider the 99.29% RTP on the main bet. This means that for every $100 wagered using basic strategy, you can expect to receive $99.29 back over an extended period. The higher house edge on side bets like 21+3 and Perfect Pairs means they will deplete a bankroll faster. It is generally advisable to focus on the main game for the best odds. Always set limits for both wins and losses before playing to ensure responsible gaming.
