How It Plays
Classic Ukrainian Blackjack 3 follows the widely accepted rules of blackjack. The game uses eight decks of cards. Players aim to achieve a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer, without exceeding 21. A blackjack (an Ace and a 10-value card as the first two cards) pays 3:2. The dealer stands on all 17s, including soft 17s.
Players have several options during a hand: Hit, Stand, Double Down (on any initial two cards), and Split (once, no re-splitting, double after split allowed). The dealer takes one hole card and peeks for blackjack only when their upcard is an Ace. If the dealer has blackjack with an Ace up, the player loses their total wager. There is no surrender option.
In addition to the main game, two popular side bets are offered:
21+3: This bet considers the player's first two cards and the dealer's upcard to form a three-card poker hand. Payouts vary based on the strength of the poker hand.
Perfect Pairs: This bet wins if the player's first two cards form a pair, with payouts differing for mixed, colored, and perfect pairs.
While side bets can add excitement, they typically carry a significantly higher house edge than the main blackjack game.
House Edge by Bet
| Bet Type | House Edge | RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Main Hand | 0.71% | 99.29% |
| 21+3 Side Bet | 3.70% | 96.30% |
| Perfect Pairs Side Bet | 4.10% | 95.90% |
The house edge for the main hand is based on optimal basic strategy play. The side bets have a considerably higher house edge, meaning they offer a lower return to player over time compared to the main blackjack wager.
Strategy and Bankroll
The optimal strategy for Classic Ukrainian Blackjack 3 is to follow basic strategy. This is a mathematically derived set of rules that dictates the best action (hit, stand, double, split) for every possible player hand against every possible dealer upcard. Adhering to basic strategy minimizes the house edge to its lowest possible point, which for this table is 0.71%. Deviating from basic strategy will increase the house edge and reduce your long-term RTP.
For bankroll management, it is advisable to set a budget before playing and stick to it. Given the relatively low house edge of the main game, blackjack can offer extended play sessions for your bankroll, provided you play with basic strategy. However, the higher house edge on side bets means they can deplete a bankroll more quickly if played frequently. Consider side bets as an occasional novelty rather than a core part of your strategy.
